Three different locations, three different years - and every time I drifted with rope in the water, I had these guys for company. They seemed very interested in the floating mass. I wondered if I was imagining it, until I found this whilst researching the way fish aggregation devices work - “Fish are fascinated with floating objects. They use them to mark locations for mating activities. They aggregate in considerable numbers around objects such as drifting flotsam, rafts, jellyfish and floating seaweed. The objects appear to provide a "visual stimulus in an optical void" and offer refuge for juvenile fish from predators. The gathering of juvenile fish, in turn, attracts larger predator fish.” So there you are - thanks, Wikipedia. If you want a shark for company, take along ten metres of rope... You’re welcome. π¦ :) #lovesharks #allinadayswork #reefsharks #blacktip #whitetip #underwaterartist #greatbarrierreef #ecosystem #studiocompanions
